People Moving Due to Trump's Presidency - Katie Schuldenberg - 7th period

"I'm moving out of the country!" became a popular term to those who opposed of Donald Trump and his presidency. Many who spoke these exact words later played it off at sarcasm or a joke after Trump's inauguration, but some started to act. "Move to Canada" searches on google have never been higher on Google. Sarah, wife and mother of two, chose to move to Canada in order to protect the rights of her family that were in jeopardy. Cori Carl and Casey Daly, wives, are in the process of moving to Canada too, afraid for their right, which they started fearing for even before Trump was a candidate. There's been unbelievable traffic on sites that handle moving to any other country. People are becoming aware that you can't just get up and leave. You must have job opportunities or a family member to meet there. Some travelers who were planning on returning to their homes in America have postponed their trips as a result of the new president.
I can emphasize with the fear for your rights and the rights of those near to you to cause you to leave home. I feel that with the rallies and sudden emigration, eyes will be opened and situations have a chance of changing. I wish luck to those leaving their home country, that they will be safe where they end up and that they can eventually return home.

  1. with all of the resistance to trump and his decisions, I'm not surprised that it has come to this.

  2. It's truly disheartening that our president has moved so many actions like this. People should not fear of their leader in their own country.

  3. Fun fact: the Canadian immigration website went down the night that Trump was elected. For me it isn't Trump that is most terrifying, but the amount of support he has. I don't think I will be able to permanently leave the U.S. morally, as I would be leaving behind people like me. to face Trump's policies.

  4. Kiri Luckey: It's sad to see citizens fearing their own leader. It is very tragic that america is falling apart because of our new elected president.
