Boy Scouts To Allow Transgender Children To Join - Emma Reyna

Summary: As of Today Boy Scouts are to allow and to accept children who are transgender or who identify as a male into their troops. Previously the persons marked gender in their birth certificate predetermined if they were eligible to join or not but now things have changed as the director of communications Effie Delimarko says “that approach is no longer sufficient as communities and state laws are interpreting gender identity differently"."As one of America’s largest youth-serving organizations, the Boy Scouts of America continues to work to bring the benefits of our programs to as many children, families and communities as possible,” Delimarko said. Last Monday, Kristie Maldonado, sued the Boy Scouts of America’s because her son, Joe, had been kicked out of his Cub Scout pack for identifying as transgender. The lawsuit claims the scouting group’s leaders acted in violation of state law, arguing that troops are places of public accommodation that must not discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. But now as The Boy Scouts stance on LBGTQ members and leaders have evolved and changed today truly marks a great ordeal for gender equality and boys (scouts) all Over America and the world.

Analysis/Synthesis: As a fellow Girl Scout this news was music to my ears after all the stuff that has been happening recently. I find it really awesome that Boys Scouts are allowing people who are transgender since recently two years ago they just allowed troop leaders of any LGBTQ stance to join so I'm very ecstatic that they have finally done an action such as this. People should be allowed to join regardless of their gender and I'm glad that as years go by people are more open minded to people's gender preference. And I hope they will continue to be more open minded and encourage other organizations to do the same regardless of gender, race, ethnicity etc. In conclusion this reminds me of the time back in 2015 when Girl Scouts allowed any girl whether they were transgender or not to join and I'm proud to be apart of such an amazing organization.
