Israel Takes Steps To Decriminalize Marijuana Use: Kate Kahle

Last week, The President of Israel announced the legalization of marijuana in the country. Medical marijuana will be fully legalized but recreational use will still be illegal, but with significantly less severe punishments. These looser rules on marijuana contrast with the nations ever tightening cigarette laws.
The medical marijuana industry is beginning to boom in the middle east like it was in the Western hemisphere a few years ago. This is a new form of economic activity in these countries and symbolizes the global normalization of marijuana as a medical product. The decriminalization of recreational marijuana use in the U.S following Israel would lead to a large decrease in money spent on the United states prison system. That is because a large percentage of U.S. Prisoners are imprisoned because of nonviolent drug crimes. The S Following Israel's footsteps to decriminalize marijuana will lead to an economic boom and a decrease of the national deficit each year in prison facilities.
