Emily McDougal - Boy Trapped In Bathroom for Over a Year

Summary: Last Sunday night, a 12-year-old boy was found locked in a bathroom in his mother's house. He was incredibly underweight, weighing only 30 pounds. It is believed that he was locked in the bathroom by his mother, and had been there for over a year, possibly close to two. The conditions in the bathroom were horrible. There were empty bean cans and a spoon found on the floor, and duct tape had been placed over the light switch so the room remained in total darkness. A video camera had been set up in the room so the mother could monitor the boy, but he could not respond back to her. In the state he was found in, the boy would have been too weak to stand up to switch the lights. The boy's father found him on the floor with only a blanket, and immediately brought him to the hospital.

Analysis: This article was published on January 21st, 2017, by Doug Criss and Samira Said, to inform the audience of the conditions that were found in this house in Utah. This entire situation is appalling to me, especially since the act was performed by the boy's own mother. She left him alone, in a dark room, all but leaving him to die. We can't predict how far the mother would have let this boy starve, but it could have only gotten worse from here. Acts like this, especially those in which a child is mistreated by their parent, have been going on for years. It's important that we stay aware so we can prevent them in the future.

Synthesis: This reminds me of the cases where a parent has left their child in a hot car, claiming memory loss, such as the Justin Ross Harris case.

  1. I wrote an article about parents abusing their children too. I can't believe people like this actually exist. What's the reasoning behind doing something like this?

  2. Oh my gosh this is crazy! I can't believe anyone would do something like this. It actually reminds me of the movies Room. Crazy.

  3. This is really sad and tragic. People say that all parents love their children unconditionally but this story proves that belief false.

  4. This is so tragic. This boy will be scarred for the rest of his life. How could his mother do this and how could the father go for over a year without seeing his son.

  5. Kiri Luckey: This is so sad! How could you possibly do something so cruel to your own child.
