Grace Schwall- March spurs efforts to get more women to run for office

After the nationwide women's march last Saturday the democratic party is moving to continue the movement by encouraging more women to run for local and national office. Organizations such as Emily's List and VoteRunLead which train women to run for governmental office have seen a large increase in members at training sessions since the 2016 election. The same organizations have also seen an increase in donations. Though they do not have political experience, many of these women are becoming successful in local offices even such as positions on school boards. Members of the democratic party hope to continue to see more women becoming active in political office.

This article was written by Eric Bradner and Sophie Tatum from CNN. It was written to display the successful effects the recent women's march. I think having women representatives in all forms of government is extremely important to our nation. Women should be the majority representatives in all decisions concerning women's issues such as abortion and birth control. With more women holding office this hopefully will be achieved. This topic can be synthesized to the Women's Suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The suffrage  movement led by Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton ended with women being granted the right to vote. This was the first step in getting women represented in government and we must now continue an increase in women representation by getting more women in public office.

  1. I think it's great more women are being involved in politics. I hope more women become willing to take part in decisions that effect our country.
