Kennedy Waterman - John Hurt, British Actor Hailed for His Shape-Shifting Roles, Dies at 77

John Hurt, a British actor known for his chameleon-like acting ability, died of pancreatic cancer Wednesday in Norfolk, England. He was 77 years old. He started as a stage actor in the 1960s, but spent most of his career in films. Titles include The Naked Civil Servant, Crime and Punishment, and V for Vendetta, and he is especially well known for his role of Mr. Ollivander in the Harry Potter films and John Merrick in The Elephant Man. He was knighted in 2015, and his memory will live on not just in England, but around the world as well.

This article was written January 27th, so the news is recent. Before reading, I was familiar with Hurt's work, as well as knowing of his passing. The article was written to inform readers of the loss. Losing celebrities is always hard because we grow attached to them on the screen. Although the premise of the article is negative, the article itself is very positive and praises Hurt and his life. This event can be related to many reports of people dying. For instance, on Thursday, January 2nd, 1800, the Norwich Packet newspaper published an article on the passing of George Washington. It praises his life, just like the article on Hurt does.

  2. I have never heard of him but from what it sounds like he was pretty awesome and it's astonishing to see how actors can change the way others think.
