California Moves to Reduce Gas Prices- Natalie Newman

Jerry Brown is on the move to lower the "record high" prices of gasoline in the state of California. Over night the price jumped 20 cents higher than the already high price of gas. Many people wonder why gas has been the most expensive in Califonia? Well, according to the New York Times Article, "Problems at several refineries in the state have been blamed..." So far there has been a fire to a refinary, as well as a power failure at another refinery. Of course, Mr. Brown has been blamed and told that he should get to work on this issue. He believes that switching to Winter blend gasoline early would be a good idea to lower the price of gas. Before solutions can be made, however, the causes need to be taken note of. The cause for the sudden increase on gas prices is still not 100% sure. Some people say that it could be the result of "malicious and manipulative trading activity" as well as the strict envioronmental regulations. Many people are still in search for the cause of the price increase, and most everyone are still in shock because of the prices. Gas prices are an issue all around the world, however, California has reached the worst of them all.

This article seems to have been written to let people become aware that the questions are being asked, but the questions are not being answered. The author of the article, Michael Schwirtz, seems to be aware of the effect of the price of gasoline on everyone, but he is also aware that the causes of the prices are still unknown. Schwirtz does a good job on persuading people to believe that there are people trying hard to find the cause of the damage.
