Sam Nester Current Event

9 people were killed in a shooting last Thursday at Umpqua Community College. The gunman left one student alive on purpose with a message for the police. Many people have been complaining about the Second Amendment in response to this massacre, and seem to think gun control is what killed the students. However, they don't seem to care that it was a person who pulled the trigger and killed 9 people. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.

Almost every time there has been a shooting, liberals have taken advantage of the opportunity to convince people that guns are what causes these shootings. Gun rights are meant to protect people, not to harm them. Imagine if someone's home was being robbed by a group of people, and the burglars were closing in on the home's owner. If the homeowner does not have an effective way to protect himself against multiple attackers, he will most likely die. The same was true in the colonial times. Just imagine that a local artisan was in a similar situation to the homeowner in the previous situation, but had no way of defending themselves and their store. They would most likely either die attempting to protect their belongings,  or end up losing all of their wealth due to the thieves. People looking to make gun control laws more strict are most likely blind to the real threat: the people who had enough hatred and rage to be able to mercilessly slaughter their own classmates. People like that should be getting some sort of help with managing their anger, stress, and depression. If that does not happen, and gun control is made more strict, then the same kind of incidents will continue to occur until no one even has a right to move without special government permission. Taking away the guns will only force the killers to get more creative, and they will begin to create methods of taking the lives of their peers that have never been seen before.

  1. I agree that it is not the guns that are the immediate cause of these events, and although it is true that these people should be offered help, I would think it would be quite obvious that without the weapons, many of the killers would have been deterred. I think that people that are volatile like this shouldn't be given the opportunity to even have access to the weapons, because if they do, they will probably use it.
