Sports Illustrated features first burkini girl - Savannah Ghermay

Although Sports Illustrated is a magazine about sports, once a year, they create a swimsuit issue of the magazine and place a woman in a bikini on the front cover. Recently, Sports Illustrated has introduced their first Muslim model in a burkini, a swimsuit that is meant to cover the whole body for modesty.

I'm against the idea that women must wear hijabs by law as is the custom in some middle eastern countries. I feel that anybody should be able to wear what they want. However, in the United States, there is freedom of religion and freedom of speech. If this woman chooses to wear her hijab, it's her prerogative. If Sports Illustrate chooses to put her on the cover, as far as i'm concerned, it's an inclusive gesture and I support it.

  1. I love how the world is taking little steps to be all inclusive. Little steps that mean a lot

  2. It seems that model companies are starting to come to their sense about all the different women their are and should be represented

  3. Hey, we're finally figuring out that representation is important! I'm here for this. Everyone deserves to feel comfortable with their bodies and what they choose to do with them, and I'm glad that we're normalizing these choices.
