Screen time for kids under 2 more than doubles, study finds - Karsyn Kelly

Studies have shown that screen time for children over 2 has more than doubled over the last 20 years. As more technology has become available such as, smartphones and tablets along with more kid friendly content, younger kids are gaining more access and spending more time on their devices. The article talks about part of this being an easy fix for parents to keep their kids occupied while they get other things around the house, specifically single parents or low socioeconomic families. While this is understandable, there is also research that shows how too much screen time, and lack of family time can negatively affect a young child’s development. Since their brain is still developing, sitting in front of a screen and not interacting with the world can cause problems in the future for children.

This is definitely a good topic to think about since many of my friends and I use our phones and technology for many different purposes every day. The article only talks about very young children, but it makes me wonder how this could affect older children and every people my age. It also makes me consider how much things could change by the time I have kids in future and if it will be even harder to keep kids away from technology at a young age.
