Courtney McColley - How did the Notre-Dame fire happen?

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/25/world/europe/notre-dame-fire-investigation.html
Over a week after the catastrophic fire that took place in France, investigators are still looking for a cause of the fire. Last Thursday, police investigators were allowed inside the cathedral to search for clues. They have come to two theories as to how it happened: a short-circut near its spire or negligence of renovation workers, indicated by the discovery of cigarette butts.
The burning down of Notre-Dame is so sad because the cathedral had been standing for 759 years and was a symbolic landmark in Paris for Christians. When news of the fire first started spreading, many assumed it was a terrorist or Brexit protest attack, so it's relieving knowing that it wasn't a purposeful act of hate. However, it is very upsetting that such a large-scale accident could occur and that it will take so long o rebuild it.
