Emma Burkey: She was at the synagogue to mourn her mother. She was killed while protecting the rabbi

This CNN article discusses the one fatality of the synagogue shooting that took place just North of San Diego. The woman, Lori Kaye, was shot protecting a rabbi of the synagogue. Kaye was there praying for her recently deceased mother and leaves behind a husband and daughter.

This is an extremely important story to be told as Kaye was a hero for saving the rabbi and sacrificed her life for him. Unfortunately, she was a victim of yet another hate crime and gun violence. Politicians in power must wake up soon to this very real issue because otherwise people, such as Kaye who was simply there to pray, will die. An injured 8-year-old girl asked her father, "Why are we staying here?", when she was recovering from her injuries. The girl and her family had swastikas spray painted on their home a few years ago. Anti semitism seems to be an epidemic in the United States as well as hate crimes in general; if we can't stop people from being discriminatory, we must at least make it harder for them to act on their hate.
