The Supreme Court is taking a double jeopardy case. This is the case of Gamble vs. United States. A double jeopardy case is one that if one is prosecuted on both the state AND federal levels, they could have two separate charges - state and federal. The case is about a man from Alabama who was charged with carrying a gun as a convicted felon. Alabama gave him one year. The federal government is considering charging him with four years. This relates to the 1850s when this rule was made, even though the Fifth Amendment prevents citizens from being prosecuted for the same offense twice. Some want to change it and some don't.
