Adriana Grande accused of using black face and a 'blaccent' by Twitter haters

When Ariana Grande went on an interview many people became angry because they accused her of trying to "sound black"
This led to people later accusing her of using black face because when they compared recent photos of her to ones from when she was on Victorius they noticed a great difference in skin tone.
I think in great part this is largely due to today's outrage culture. I don't think there is a way for you to speak a certain skin color and I think that simply by claiming that you are only further stereotyping that race or ethnicity. I also dont think that by tanning she is commiting blackface. I think she just thought tanned skin looked nice on her and chose to get a fake one instead of frying in the sun and had no malicious intent; she never claimed to be black or that she was trying to look black she just got a tan. However, I know that I can only say so much since I am not black and can in no way tell another person what they should or shouldn't be offended by, but I think often times people think they should be offended just because someone else is.
first off, its not Adriana Grande
ReplyDeleteThat controversy is so stupid, she got a little tan and that's it. Shes not trying to be anyone else and her music is what people should be focused on.
GRAYSON DECKER GRAYSON DECKER
We all know that that tan is not natural. She was on Nickelodeon and we all know that he is paler that a ghost.

The ideal that "white is better" constantly oppresses people of color with whitewashing in the media, so I can see why people would be offened due to the priviledge of darkening her skin without backlash whike dark people are encouraged o bleach their skin or change their appearance to have more eurocentric features. However, she never claimed to be black or appropriated black culture. I can see why this is controversial
ReplyDeleteI just don’t like Ariana Grande, for starters, but I can definitely see how she’s appropriating Black culture. This is pretty crazy. This is the second post I’ve seen about this and honestly I can kind of see the juxtaposition between Blackfishing and Minstrels. Homestly the difference is that Minstrelsy was used to mock African Americans and whatever this Instagram thing is is used to take advantage of African American culture to get money. Neither concept is exactly moral.
