This Monday in San Diego, California, near the border between the United States and Mexico, more than 400 people, mostly religious leaders and activists, stood near the border fence in support of the Honduras migrant caravan making its way toward the border. Organized by the American Friends Service Committee, protesters called for an end to detainment and deportment, some singing and praying, others wearing shirts displaying the words: "Love Knows No Borders". 32 people were said to have been handcuffed and led away after supposedly getting too close to the wall or "enforcement zone", as described by Border Patrol. The American Friends Service Committee says this was in order to offer a ceremonial blessing near the wall. It has been reported that 31 people were arrested for trespassing and one for assaulting an officer.
This event evidently displays yet another attempt to censor the voices of those with something to say under the Trump administration. This reminds me of an event I wrote about not so long ago regarding reporter Jim Acosta, who asked a question concerning the migrant caravan during a press conference with Trump. Acosta asked Trump why he thought that the caravan was an invasion if it was still thousands of miles away. To this Trump shifted to insults and asked for the next question from another reporter, leaving Acosta's question unanswered, and Trump with no spoken reasoning whatsoever. We see the same happening here, as protesters are evaded through handcuffs and no acknowledgement is given from our president Trump.
