Faith Leaders to U.S. authorities: Migrants have International right to U.S. Asylum- Yesenia Ramirez Monroy
Many religious leaders have gathered at the U.S. border on the day of Human Rights to send a message to our President. In the gathering Joyce Ajlouny said ,“As a Quaker who believes in our shared humanity … We’re calling on the U.S. to respect the rights of migrants''. Also an organization showed up at the gathering and they had a conference to say that the U.S. should respect peoples Human Rights and that immigrants should receive asylum if needed. After the gathering U.S. official said that the amount of military patrol will go down from 5,400 to 3,000. Many people who ask for asylum is because they live in fear in their country, but also many people fear to apply for asylum because they are afraid of persecution. This article was written by Nicole Acevedo and was published the 12/10/2018. The purpose of this article was to inform us of the current issue about immigrants being rejected to receive asylum. The Author of this article also includes many views and quotes that people gave in the gathering which led to about 30 religious leaders to get arrested. Thought this whole article we can see that people are being taken away their right. For example, freedom of speech, religion, and freedom of press and this relates back to U.S. history and the Bill of Rights. Also some members of the Quakers participated in this conference which the Quakers began around the time period of 1650 and were part of the movement of religion and society issues.
