The 2020 election is sure to be controversial. After nearly defeating Ted Cruz in the most recent Senate race in Texas, Beto O'Rourke is becoming increasingly popular as a possible Democratic candidate. He has notably successful with small donors and has received much support from Obama's advisors and the nation's youth. The Democratic party is currently very unorganized when it comes to selecting their candidate; over three dozen democrats are considering running. There is also debate within the party on whether or not now is the time for a nonwhite or female president. Beto worries about losing the personal touch that helped his senate race, but believes that now is the time for him to take office. He is already working hard behind the scenes to get his candidacy in action.
I personally think that Beto would be a great choice for the presidency. He greatly appeals to the younger generation and nonwhite and female voters, whose vote is very important. With the comments and actions of the current president, these groups and empowered and will likely have a large impact on election day. I wish that our country was in a place to not elect another white male, but at this time I think that it is too risky. We need a candidate that has widespread support and will not be too controversial.
I definitely agree that Beto should run for office; he has a unique knack for bringing people together that he displayed in his campaign, and I believe that his unifying nature could help the country at the moment.
