Several attacks of arson and gunfire have been on Kingdom Halls around Washington state this year. No one has been injured in these attacks but the Jehova's Witnesses find these situations hard to comprehend, considering their constant attempt at making a positive effort towards their communities. It is believed that these attacks are directed towards those who are of this religion.
Countless attacks on places and people of worship have occurred this year and they will only continue. It's odd to think that in a country of so many different religions, cultures, and ethnicities, that we'd be trying harder to prevent these sort of attacks, but clearly, with five consecutive attacks in the same area in the past year, not enough is being done. The author, Deanna Hackney, likely writes this to address the arsons but doesn't seem to show any sort of a personal point of view from their writing. This article is possibly addressed to Americans, in an attempt at bringing awareness to the religious intolerance in our country and hopefully sparking change.
After the Civil War, the Ku Klux Klan, a terrorist cult, targeted Americans in order to intimidate them away from voting. Most of those targeted were African Americans, who had just been freed from slavery with the 13th amendment and given the right to vote with the 15th amendment. The members of the KKK wished to maintain white supremacy in the states, leading to racial intolerance, just as these arsons are an act of intolerance against Jehova's Witnesses.
