A Chinese Scientist claimed to have edited the embryos of twins to make them immune to HIV. The babies were born and he claims that they are perfectly normal, healthy babies. However many people became extremely outraged that this happened. Many claiming that it was her irresponsible, dangerous, and just immoral. The scientist claims to have taken precaution and that he was successful zinc edge babies seem to be healthy and normal he also claims that he is using gene editing for good and healing and that it would be immoral if he was using it to change eye or hair color, or IQ levels, but he only intends to do good and to heal and believe he has done nothing wrong.
I think that using gene editing as a way of healing or preventing diseases is a wonderful thing however I don't believe we are at the stage where we should be doing that yet. I think we still have no idea what kind of long-term effects doing this kind of thing could have not only on the babies themselves but their children and future generations and the human race itself. We are no where near ready for this kind of medicine use and think it is very concerning that this scientist was able to do this without someone telling him that maybe it wasn't such a great idea to mess with human evolution just yet.

ReplyDeleteEven if he was trying to create a super smart baby, thatd still be pretty cool

Its crazy to hear about how far technology is coming and what new things are on its way. I agree that this is wonderful thing but again we still don't have a full understanding of it so therefore it could be dangerous. -Lesly Marquez
ReplyDeleteWatch the “God making” meme become reality with these designer babies.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you, in the future this could be useful, but right now we have bigger problems and I doubt many people would be open to allowing their children to be “gene edited” without proper assurance. I
