In 200 years, humans reversed a climate trend lasting 50 million years, study says - Joziah German

Earth in 2030, if global warming continues unchecked, could end up looking like its former self 3 million years ago. Climate change is the number one leading cause of this heat trend because of the greenhouse effect. The Greenhouse Effect is when gasses, such as emissions, are trapped as heat in the planet's atmosphere. Scientist discovered that the Earth would look like the mid-Pliocene, a period that the Earth had temperatures 2-4 degrees warmer than now. This means that the northern hemisphere would have little permanent ice coverage, and the sea level would be 60 feet taller. The real issue is not whether or not humanity would survive through this now, which they will, but its how much it would disrupt the future of humanity. "It's very possible that both ecological systems and human systems may fail to adapt rapidly enough, with devastating consequences. No one knows exactly how this future will look, but if we don't curtail emissions drastically and immediately, it isn't likely to be a pretty one", said Obradovich.

This article, published by Susan Scutti, was created on December 10th. It was created as a result of studies showing the earth is suffering from climate change. Prior to this, I have known some about emissions and the greenhouse effect, as well as how the earth is changing because I have seen it many times on the news, as well as discussed it in many science classes. This article reminds me of Eocene, which occurred over 50 million years ago. The reason this also connects to U.S. history is that it helped shape the form America has today, and with these heat trends, who knows how the continents would change again, affecting us. This article was written for all Americans because this is an issue that all of us are involved in. It is also, most definitely a negative connotation on the audience because these studies are telling the people that with not doing something to fix our emission issue, we will end up reversing our climate to times unbearable to live in. The author believes that to avoid this future, both political representatives and individuals need to take action. They can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, he said. This article is important to people everywhere because this issue of global warming is a result from us, and only something we can reverse individually. For example, individually, we can take public transport or use bicycles instead of driving. If we don't fix this trend now, it will only get worse for the generations below us to survive.

  1. This is a great way to raise awareness and inform people of the continual damaging effects of fossil fuel emissions, although unfortunately, nowadays many people's lives revolve around this form of energy, for example, everyday electricity or motor powered vehicles. So the real question is how to go about altering these ways of life in order to limit the usage of fossil fuels and therefore climate change?
