https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/10/us/nypd-mother-child-video/index.htmlSummary:
Jazmine Headley arrived at the Fort Greene Food Stamp Center in Brooklyn at 9 a.m. to get her child back on daycare and waited at the office for four hours. She was asked to move from her spot on to the floor because she was in the way but there was lack of any type of seating. Security then decided to call police, and police respned to the call escalating the scene even further by pulling Headley's child out of her arms because they asked her to leave and she wouldn't.
Analysis:
Written by Elizabeth Joseph and Eric Levenson, and published at 4:00 pm on Decmeber 10th,2018. I know that some women who are unfortunate or poor are frowned upon for having children but I never imagined an accident like this would occur. This reminds me of the time period 1729 when a modest proposal came out. At the time there were many poor women with kids and John Swift made a joking proposal of eating poor babies as a solution to the problem. The article shames the NYPD for being so brutal towards the woman and further promotes her innocence. The authors find it important to tell both sides of the toward and tell people what happened in there opinion. This incident is only a representation of how the low class are mistreated because they dont have enough "money" to be treated fairly. The people at the center expected her to stand for four hours with a baby in her hands so she could put the child back in daycare while she worked. Then police proceed to harshly pull at the mother and her baby to then only arrest Headley. A good caring mother is facing charges for looking out for her own child.
This is heartbreaking to hear a police officer take a mother’s child away from them ~ Stephannie Hernandez
ReplyDeleteI feel like this should be considered police brutality
ReplyDeleteI agree because this woman wasn't doing anyhting wrog and her child was quite literally ripped from her. It is evident that lower class people are still treated as inferior.
DeleteThis is saddening. The poliece are there to help mothers and children.
ReplyDeleteI hate that many police officers abuse their power to hurt the people they need to be protecting. If law enforcement is a menace to citizens instead of an assurance, you know the system is corrupt.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Power is really starting to be abused and its really starting to build a really unsafe world!
