NASA's InSight lander, a lander probe sent to Mars that landed last week, has just sent back the first ever recording of Martain winds. The incredible thing about all of this is that these sounds were completely unexpected. The probe was sent to Mars in order to its record seismic activity (Earthquakes). The sound is described as a low hum or rumble and is believed to have been caused by winds' vibrations being picked up by the lander's air pressure sensor and seismometer. "Capturing this audio was an unplanned treat. But one of the things our mission is dedicated to is measuring motion on Mars, and naturally that includes motion caused by sound waves," Bruce Banerdt, the InSight principal investigator at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, said in a statement.

I think that this discovery is really cool and I definitely agree with Banerdt calling the audio a treat. I can't wait to see what else the lander provides about the Red Planet.
This relates to US history through the American-Soviet space race in the middle 20th century. This probe is a direct continuation of what those men and worked so hard for; discovery. With the InSight lander recording Mars, I am sure that this will affect the future, just as the past affected it.
Yay NASA
