George W. Bush, the 41st President, passed away on Friday. He was a Republican politician who served as the vice president under Ronald Regan before being elected President in 1988. He only served on term, but him and his family have had a great effect on our nation. During his presidency, Bush dealt with many issues of foreign affairs including the end of the cold war, tension in the Middle East, and the Gulf War).
His presidency and actions after his term, emphasize the importance of not letting political boundries divide us. He was close friends with the Clintons and other democrats, despite his republican stance. Recently political divisions have greatly increased. His death serves as a reminder of the care that previous presidents have had for their country. Unlike the impression given by the current administration, Bush made calculated decisions especially when it came to foreign policy. The U.S. can not stand alone, and it is important to take great care in foreign affairs.
The turn over from Bush to Clinton reminds me of the 1800 election which was the first peaceful turnover of power from different parties. Bush and Clinton were friends despite their political differences, so Bush welcomed him into the White House.
