At 87, her mission to help immigrants hasn't slowed down- Nik Puri
Earning the right to be called "a hero" isn't an achievement that many attain. The select few who accomplish this are often individuals who have impacted the something in a significant way. In this case, Florence Phillips is a hero for starting the ESL In-Home Program of Northern Nevada, a non-profit organization that has helped over 5,000 immigrants and their families. Her organization provides free ESL, U.S. Citizenship, GED classes, and computer classes. In a brief interview with CNN, she noted that "Her students are inspired to become Americans. Whether they're working two, three jobs, they have to sit down and study every single day, and they make that commitment because it is their desire to become Americans." Florence Phillips is currently 87 and is settled down in Carson City, Nevada, where she continues to make a difference every day.
