Eleanor E-W, Period 5

This year (for the second year in a row) no people of color were nominated in any of the four acting categories at the Oscars. All 20 nominees are white. This has led to some serious backlash, including Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith boycotting the Academy Awards. The president of the Oscars, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, spoke out today saying he was "heartbroken" and expressing his desire and plan to change things (including reviewing all the people that vote on the nominees/winners).
I think it's really terrible that all the nominees are white, but it's heartening to see people pushing for change, and it's good that the Academy is actually planning to change things. Although this is on a little bit of a smaller scale, it reminds me of all the reform movements going on in the Antebellum Age--the push for change, and the eventual response.
