Historic Snowstorm Hits East Coast-Nicholas Watson, 9th

Summary:
A potential historic snowstorm struck the Mid-Atlantic East Coast on Friday bringing howling winds and up to 2 ft. of snow in some parts. As of now more than 85 million Americans were placed under a blizzard, winter storm or freezing rain warnings, which spanned across 20 states. Air and road travel is also expected to be delayed for most of the weekend as wells as thousands of flights being cancelled, leaving travelers stranded. It has gotten so bad that some states have declared states of emergencies. In addition to hazardous road and air conditions, widespread power outages are expected.

Analysis:
Although this may seem like a fun and playful event for kids, who are probably going to be out of school for the next few days, I can see the headache that this is going to cause in the long run. Although we can't control mother nature and her unpredictability, we do have the right to complain about all of the problems that this winter storm is going to cause: not just in the immediate affected areas, but in many ways internationally and globally. To start off with all of the thousands of flight cancellations are could potentially cause a major disturbance in the economy, due to the fact that many people are probably going to want their money back and the lack of business people being able to travel to their destination are going to affect those corporations too. Along with bad flight conditions, icy roads are virtually going to shut down major east coast cities, which also shuts down all business and commerce that would potentially be in constant continuation. This also leads to the loss of money and a blow to the economy; being unable to do business. In addition to these problems, power outages are not going to be good, especially if the families it affects are not equipped to be without power for a long period of time. the lack of heat, in sub zero temperatures, as well as lack of food and water will cause many problems at the house. Although events like these are rare in nature, they cause more problems then many people think. And although it may be fun to go outside and build a snowman they are going to be thousands of others who cant wait for the snow to melt, in order to let them get on with their lives. This event can be compared to other snow storms and freak weather patterns that have hit the United States in the past, also causing the same problems.

  1. Although I wish we got more snow, I'm glad that we don't have to worry about all the troubles it causes!

  2. It is unbelievable to think about how much snow and winter weather the East gets, considering we live in Texas. But hopefully this storm does not result in casualties.

  3. It is interesting how much can go wrong due to a massive storm in a certain area and how it can have an affect on places and businesses in other areas too. I think that natural disasters such as these definitely have a major ripple effect all around the world. :)
