Texas eighth-grader suspended for rescuing classmate during asthma attack
Summary: A 15 year old eighth grader at Gateway Middle School was suspended for two days. Gateway is an alternative school, and the student, Anthony Ruelas, has been suspended several times in the past. One of Ruelas' classmates had an asthma attack, and the teacher simply e-mailed the school nurse and waiting for a response. After a few minutes, Ruelas took his classmate to the nurse against his teacher's wishes. She filed a report, and he was suspended.
Analysis: It is ridiculous to think that a student should be punished for assisting his classmate, especially when the teacher essentially did nothing to help. The teacher filing a report is essentially her taking out her anger in a medical situation. It is also her fault that Ruelas left the room. If she had not handled the situation in such a ridiculous manner, there would have been no conflict.

ReplyDeleteWhat an awful event.
It's a shame that just because it is assumed that this kid is a troublemaker, he is punished for saving a classmates life.

This situation is insanely stupid, it doesn't matter if they were at an alternative school or not; Anthony Ruelas did the right thing in helping a classmate, he did more than their so called "authority figure".

People can be so ignorant sometimes. At least the kid actually tried to help his classmate.

I can't believe this
ReplyDeleteThis is so stupid. I understand respecting a teachers rules, but when it is a life or death situation, you have to take the matter into your own hands.
ReplyDeletewhat is this teacher trying to make this kid learn by punishing him for trying to help his friend having an asthma attack?!
