Lawmakers have created a bill that allows police to search through cell-phones without a warrant in order to enforce the Distracted Driving laws. This is supposed to provide safer roads and less distracted driving related accidents.

I think that allowing warrantless searches is an invasion of privacy, and completely unnecessary. Although it is a much smaller scale incident, it brings up the argument and controversy of Liberty vs. Security similar to that of when the Sedition Act was passed, that compromised the First Amendment in order to provide safety during a war time. I think the Distracted Driving laws are a great improvement and provide safer driving habits, but I also think that if a cell-phone search is necessary it should be done with a warrant. What are your thoughts? Will warrantless cellphone searches make our roads safer, or will they compromise our freedom
