In Beijing, the government has issued a red alert today, ordering all schools be closed and all outside construction or any kind of outdoor activities to stop as well as banning barbecues and fireworks. This high alert is set to stay until Thursday. Until then, citizens are encouraged to stay inside or at least wear a mask if they must go outside.
Since China is one the leading countries of emitting greenhouse gases, so it's not very surprising that such a high alert like this was issued. Global warming has been a very relevant and important issue for a very long time and a red alert could finally be a wake up call to certain people who choose to ignore the issue or don't believe it's happening at all. However, China's emissions are set to peak sometime around 2030.
