Notable Individuals Warnings About AI by Brenna Hale(6th Period)

More than 1,000 experts on artificial intelligence(AI) have signed a letter warning about the dangers of these developments. The signers of this letter include Stephen Hawking and Steve Wozniak. AI has been a topic of conversation in the United Nations, which is considering banning these types of autonomous weapons. Experts say that there should be a ban on artificial intelligence that controls weapons and has the potential of being out of human control. The letter has been published online by the Future of Life Institute (FLI), and will be presented to delegates of the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Buenos Aires.
I don't see how artificial intelligence is any different from the people who created it. Their research and own intelligence goes into it, so is there really need for it when we have the inventors? This article clearly explains the impending issue, which I honestly had no idea about. Experts claim that AI helps in the field of healthcare and that is believable. What purpose though does it serve in the military which a human could not do? So many questions, I know. This development reminds me of the inventions during the Industrial Revolution such as the cotton gin, interchangeable parts, and the steam engine. Both events helped and are currently helping to change the technological face of the world.

  2. It's kinda frightening to think that there might be an uncontrollable force beyond our years in advancement. Things could get out of hand very quickly, I mean... you've seen enough sci-fi to know that there's so much that could go wrong.
