Florida Police Shoot and Injure 14- year old Black Male for carrying a airsoft gun
By: Tristin Manus 8th
Summary: Police in Jacksonville, Florida shot and injured 14-year old black male who the say pointed the airsoft gun at an officer, prompting him to open fire. The officer identified, Josh Livingood, mistook the gun for a real weapon. The teenager, who had a known history of mental illness, sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. The teenager was at least shot at about 6 times but only one bullet manage to puncture his leg. Livingood has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation of this situation.
Analysis: This as bee at least the third time in over a year the police have shot a black individual holding a fake weapon. November marked the year anniversary of Cleveland police shooting of Tamir Price- the 12- year old black male who was playing in the park with a toy gun when he was fatally shot down by Officer Timothy Loehmann. This is why we uplift #BlackLivesMatter, because of police brutality and abuse of power. We do not want a repeat of what happen to Tamir, we want immediate consequences for the wrong doings of Officer Livingood. So finally they decided that Black kids can have mental illness instead of being accused of being thugs? More and more everyday I hear about another black person receiving injustice for the faults of police officers. But shooting him 6 times? Six times for a toy gun.

I don't understand why there is such a high number of shootings these days. There aren't even real reasons for a majority of them and its just sick.

Police need to get their act together. Some of them are really racist and that is not okay.
ReplyDeleteThe number of shooting that has happened recently is really scary. I am not sure if this increasing number is just my perception because I have lately been more in touch with the news, or if the number really is increasing. What's even crazier is that there are a lot of shooting that happen that don't get attention from the media. It is so awful to think about.

I do understand the officer not knowing that it was a fake gun but shooting him six times? Was that really necessary?
