On Tuesday this week, a red truck passed a a mosque in Philadelphia and tossed a pig head to the front door. On the video footage you can't see the driver or passenger and police are still trying to find connections to this crime. Many hate crimes have increased after the bombings in Paris toward the Muslim community and have led to beatings and even one of the 2016 presidential candidates threatening to block out of the country all Muslims. Police believe the pig head wasn't random but in fact to make fun of the religion for not eating pig or any pig byproducts.
I think this is very sad. The toll for the types of things happening have risen past the marking for hatred of the religion after the 911 attacks. Of course it's not helping with the fact that one of the nominees for president is racist and is declaring that he isn't going to allow anyone of that religion in the U.S. when he becomes president. I think that even him saying that would get him kicked out of the race but apparently people agree with him. I think that this relates back to history when after pearl harbor happened that the Japanese were put in internment camps which isolated them from the rest of the United States even if they were citizens. This is very racist. Videos have been shown of people without a hijab on and smiling at people who returned the smile. Then in the video it shows that same person wearing a hijab and that same person that had just smiled at them gives them a dirty look! I think that comparing normal U.S. citizens that are Muslim to the bombers is like comparing all Catholics to The Army of God which is a Christian organization that promotes the killing of abortion providers.

This is really awful. I hope people realize that terrorizing the nice, kind, faithful Muslims in their area will not stop the larger problem of terrorism abroad. In fact, this people who were affected by this hate crime probably have no connection at all to any of the terrorist organizations. It is unfair to treat them badly because bad people claim to be Muslim.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both your analysis and Lisl's analysis. This kind of hate crime is unacceptable and to lash out in such a factor will only make matters worse. Discriminating against everyone with certain beliefs is wrong and spiteful.
