Emily Rosuck 4th - Pig's Head Thrown at Mosque

This week a surveillance video has surfaced of a pigs head being thrown from a truck at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Philadelphia. Pork is haram, or forbidden, in the Muslim religion and pork and pork by-products (including lard and gelatin) are not eaten by practicing Muslims. While the case is being recognized as a "potential hate crime." It's pretty clear that it was in fact an act of hate. Just a month earlier, the same mosque had gotten a voicemail saying "Are you happy with what happened in France?" "God is pork!" "God is a pig!" After the paris attacks, the Al-Aqsa Islamic Society has been receiving many threats and phone calls; however, an act like this is unusual. The mosque has not been intimidated, but defiant. Spokesperson of the Society said that this is their community and it's usually very tolerant and diverse, they won't let this act of hatred scare them or shake them.
The response of the Paris attacks have created such an anti-Muslim environment that is arguably worse than that of 9/11. During 9/11, anti-Muslim rhetoric was taboo, now it has become mainstream. This incident is a disgusting act of hatred and discrimination against an entire religion from the actions of a minority and should be condemned by anyone who happens to come across it.
