At Hillary Clinton’s criminal justice speech, racial equality activists, those particularly advocating for Black Lives Matter, interrupted the speech. The activists insist that candidates should focus on popular social issues such as police brutality and violent activity due to racism; however, most people in the crowd wished that Hillary Clinton continues her speech. Recently, another group of protesters had disrupted Bernie Sanders’ speeches as well, which displays a trend that these activists are targeting democratic candidates. The actions of the protesters relate to the muckrakers during the gilded age, who wished to shine light on the gilded aspects of society in order to push for reforms. During the gilded age, the president did not have much power, as a president does not today, since congress gets to make many decisions. Thus, even though people push for rights, complaining to the government, the president cannot do much.
