"I Got You" Katie Schell Flex

original: Dec. 5, 2015

"I Got You" were the words of Shannon Johnson as he shielded his co worker Denise Peraza with his body during Wednesday's massacre at a country health department holiday party. He was one of 14 people who were killed that day and Peraza was one of 21 who were wounded.

This man was clearly either insanely brave or uncommonly selfless. Jumping in front of a bullet for someone is a thing that people say they would do but I'm not sure how many would actually follow through with their claim. This guy is a hero and it's truly awful that his life was taken in an event like this. There are brave people all around the world and the sad reality is that in situations like these that number of brave people dwindles. People are scared and having someone to look up too is a comforting factor in these circumstances. Even though saving someone from being shot is so selfless, there should not be a need for it. We should not be afraid to go out of our houses, or to go to school, or to go into public places. We should not constantly be reading on the news about this shooting and that massacre. There needs to be a stop and we need someone, a "hero", to step up and end the violence.

  1. He was so brave to do this. Yeah I think a lot of people say that they will take a bullet for you, but if it ever happened I think there would be hesitation.

  2. It is so devistating that this man had to give his life up for something that could have been avoided. There are way too many stories like this in the news and they seem to be growing at an exponential rate. We need tighter gun control laws and we need them now.

  4. This is crazy!! That shows so much about his character but is also very very sad. I compleltey agree though, we shouldn't be afraid to go out in public that's so sad.
