On Monday, December 7th, Beijing’s city government issued its first red alert for pollution. The red alert, which is the highest in the system, ordered schools to close, stopped outdoor construction, and limited car use due to the harmful quality of the air. Beijing's Municipal Bureau of Environmental Protection has warned that starting on Tuesday, severe pollution will cover the Chinese capital and could last for more than three days.
I chose this article because this is an issue that humankind has proved unable to solve. We’ve discussed the idea that history repeats itself several times in APUSH. But pollution is a growing problem that is constantly changing through time, and it effects everyone on the planet.
