Swastikas Found in Jewish Fraternity- by Rachel Devine (6th)

Sunday morning, students at Emory University in Atlanta found very disturbing grafitti spray painted on the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house (a well known jewish fraternity.) The red swastikas were sprayed shorty after the end of one of the most important and holy holidays, Yom Kipper or the day of atonement. Last month, it was also reported that someone drew swastikas inside the library campus. According to Emory's President, Jim Wagner, "its appearance on our campus is an attack against everything for which Emory stands."

I cannot even begin to explain how sad this article makes me feel. First of all, my oldest brother went to Emory University, and I am jewish, which makes this personal. Second, it disgusts me that there are still anti-semetic people out there. The sign of the nazis is extrememly offensive, and even if it was meant to be some kind of joke, it's not funny. It's a good thing that the college is taking the situation seriously and realizes something like this shouldn't just be shoved under the carpet.

  1. It is sickening how there are still people who believe and support ANYTHING that the Nazis stood for. Hopefully whoever did this is caught and punished appropriately.

  2. It so crude to discriminate people. We should learn from history and accept all types of people. Even if this is a joke, it is not acceptable. This should not be taken lightly.

  3. This is such an awful thing to hear about, considering that we live in a time period where differences in religion shouldn't be such a big issue. Clearly, some people still treat this difference as a huge barrier that can't be overcome. Thank goodness the college is trying its best to discover who the culprits are, and hopefully they find out soon.
