Thomac Eric Duncan, the patient being treated for Ebola in Dallas, has just been provided an experimental antiviral drug becuase of his critical condition. The medicine, made by a North Carolina drugmaker, is an emergency step authorized by the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA usually only grants emergency access to unapproved drugs when a patient faces life-threatening conditions which have no other alternatives. Although Duncan's case is seemingly losing hope, Federal officials say they are confident that they can stay on top of any more cases that arrive.
It seems really sketchy to me that they are using an experimental drug (meaning they don't know for sure what effects it will have), but I also have high hopes that it will help! Who knows? This antiviral drug could be a cure for Ebola! Or maybe it could at least lessen the pain that he is going through.

I really hope this works! But I agree, a little sketchy to test it in this sort of crucial situation
ReplyDeleteI hope it works out so we can move towards helping those in Africa. However, I'm questioning how they've tested the drug prior to this? Or is this the only trial they've had thus far?
