Jewish Fraternity vandalized By Madeline Boreham 4th period

On Sunday at Emory University, one of its fraternities, a well known Jewish Fraternity, was spray painted with swastikas. This event occurred merely hours after the Jewish holiday "Yom Kippur" The schools police are still investigating and are increasing the school's security, because this is not the first time this has happened.

After all of the hate and ignorance that stands behind this symbol, it is a shock that it continues on today.  It was a low point in humanity and should not be taken lightly. To me the people who sprayed them on do not have a good understanding of what actually happened during the Holocaust.  We have always faced ignorance in this country. When we first came to the new world we knew nothing about the natives so we assumed the worst and abused them, when in reality they had many tools to help us.  We need to learn from our history and try to improve and not let our mistakes repeat themselves. This act is just another example of the ignorance here and how people think they can get away with things like this.

  1. I agree with you. It also reflects a lack of respect for other cultures which is actually so incredibly important to have. I hope they find whomever did this and they face the consequences for such bigotry.

  2. I'm with you on the fact that it wasn't right for them to vandalize the building, but I can't help but think that they knew exactly what they were doing and why. They couldn't be ignorant of the horrific events of the Holocaust because they understood the symbolism of the swastikas, and why their so disrespectful to the culture.

  3. I find it incredibly shocking that such intolerance is still occurring in 2014, especially an intolerance that would go as far as to support the atrocities committed by Hitler against the Jewish people. Neonazis are present in the USA and Russia among other places, so I hope we take global action to end such bigotry.

  5. It's appalling that something like this happened. The events of the holocaust were horrible, to say the least, and the fact that someone decided to do this is heartbreaking. I hope that they catch the people who did this and that some day the people understand just how awful their actions were.

  6. I agree that the people that did this probably don't fully understand the meaning behind this symbol and the serious events of the Holocaust. I cannot believe that someone would deface another person's property like that or be that disrespectful. It truly is sad. (Myles Bennett)

  7. I think it's ignorant to say that they didn't know what the swastika implies. Personally, I think that they were well aware of the statement they were making.
