Ex Terrorist taken to New York for Trial- Ashley Barnes 2nd

A former member of Al Qaeda was arrested and taken into custody. His current family is in Libya, where his friends and family proclaim that he is no longer apart of the terrorist group, and that he has tried to make amends with the Liberian government with his actions. President Obama wanted him to have his trial in America, located in New York. Siberia agreed. He is now stationed in New York, awaiting his trial on Tuesday.

This current event shows the struggle with judging the past and the present of individuals, as well as the struggle of applying justice and law to terrorists on our own soil. By leaving Libya and entering the United States, the interrogation process is already limited, and basically over. Having the right to a fair trial is one of our rights stated, however should this and does this apply to people other than Americans, especially if at one time they wanted to hurt America? These are all questions that have to be considered. Also, there is another aspect of danger. Having a possible terrorist enter America could end very badly. It is good that the state was informed before he arrived, so that different levels of safety could be added.

  1. This situation is a really tough one, given that terrorists seem to hate America and all that it stands for, and that if this trial becomes controversial, it could endanger Americans and our safety. We would never want to cause any form of war or violence in America, and I think that should also be considered throughout this trial. America just has to be careful about how it handles situations dealing with terrorism so as to not provoke any repercussions from terrorist groups.

  2. When fear and anxiety turn to panic, we sometimes do things that are overcautious and excessive in order to reduce our anxiety. The presence of terrorists in this world have changed many things in our country one of which is the huge increase in airport and transportation security. However some of the actions taken to end terrorism have gone too far due to the fear they have provoked. In order to not let anxiety control us, it is important to always make decisions after we have thought through them calmly and rationally.

  3. If easy to see that America still holds a grudge against all this, which is completely understandable. However, this is proof that in todays world we still find conflict and are swayed by negative outlooks in life. The groups leader is dead and yet the fight continues, will there ever be a real end to all this?
