Almost Depression by: Steffani Lopez 5th period

The article I chose addresses the possibility of being 'almost depressed'. These people make up about 12 million in our nation, a scary amount considering the often fatal symptoms of clinical depression. Shelley Carson asks questions about symptoms the reader may be experiencing. She continues to assure the reader that even if they have the following symptoms, they don't have a serious mental illness. The purpose of this article is to remind people who are losing interest in things they used to find fun or losing their appetite that they aren't the only ones.

I think this short dissertation on almost depression is necessary, especially to overly stressed high school students and basically everyone over the age of 12. Knowing that almost depression is a thing really helps me to understand why being sad too much is a thing.

  2. This is good to know about as so many people today could be sad and confused and not know what to do about it.

  4. I think this is an interesting idea. So many people our age label teenage angst and moodiness as depression. This just leads them into a ridiculous spiral of sadness.

  5. Depressed is a word we use too carelessly and lightly. I think this is a great study because it lets troubled people know that they aren't something as severe and diagnosed clinically depressed or feel stupid for being not happy.

  6. I agree with the fact that people use the word "depression" too easily. Depression is a serious thing and a lot of people who are going through a tough time, etc., automatically assume they are depressed just due to being stressed or sad. This is a good idea that gives people somewhat of a definition of their problems. However, this term can also soon become used too carelessly.

  7. Being humans, we are wired to focus on the negative things in our lives so we can improve them. However, this can sometimes be a detriment to us and lead to depression or something close to it. It is important to focus on all of the things we can be thankful for and the positive things in our lives. It is also important to remember that no matter how bad something may be, things always end up working themselves out in the long run.
