Recently, African American New Yorkers have began to speak up about being racially profiled. Most of these incidents have happened outside of Macey's and Barney's NYC. Police have stopped individuals and checked their bags, accused them of credit card fraud, and made other accusations. One of the men stopped was an actor of an HBO show. When asked about the incidents the stores and the Police department both had no comment.
Racial Profiling has always been an issue in this country. I find it sad that it's something we can't seem to escape. No matter what race you are, you have either been a victim or guilty of this. It doesn't make you a bad person it's just all we've known. It's a leaned behavior. That being said, I think it's time we break tradition or spreading racial profiling. People like to call our generation the blind generation because we don't tend to judge each other by race, gender, or religion. I think if we teach future generations to look at people the way we do the our nasty habit of racial profiling will finally disappear.

Oh wow a friend was actually just telling me about one of these incidents. It's so crazy that cops do this kind of thing and actually think they have legitimate excuses.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure that you can say "it doesn't make you a bad person." I believe that racial profiling is very wrong and those police officers are very wrong. I hope that this issue will change in our lifetime.
