Gov. Chris Christie's decision Monday to drop an appeal of a lower court's decision allowing for same-sex marriage in New Jersey delighted gay rights advocates and left leaders on both sides of the issue looking for their next move.

Opponents of gay marriage blamed the state Supreme Court for forcing Mr. Christie's hand on the issue, and vowed to continue fighting.Same-sex couples rushed to wed early Monday morning, the first day they could do so legally in New Jersey. Mayors in some places performed ceremonies just after midnight on Sunday for couples looking to tie the knot as soon as possible
I personally think this was a rather passive way of securing gay marriage in the state. At the same time, however, I believe this may be the route that other states pursue in their fight for gay marriage.
