A two year old girl in North Carlolina died by finding a gun, which was located under her living room couch, and shooting herself due to playing with it. The father is being charged with involuntary manslaughter.
The debate on owning guns of course does not have one straight answer. Otherwise, there would be no argument one what the answer should be. Americans are given the right to bear arms. However, this instance violates the child's individual rights. By this gun being in the house, she was neglected and was not able to be protected from the gun. I believe that whenever bearing arms interferes with another person, that it should be more highly considered. It's terrible that this young girl had to suffer the consequences of a loaded gun. Parents should take more precaution in handling such weapons, so that they don't violate the rights of others.

I agree with you I believe that people should keep there arms somewhere not so obvious and protected like a safe - Emily Gray
ReplyDeleteI also agree about the gun placement. I can't imagine losing a child over a misplaced gun that shouldn't even be in the household.
ReplyDeleteI believe in that too. People who want their children to be safe should not have firearms or anything dangerous left out in the open because of situations like this.
ReplyDeleteWow... The stupidity is absolutely unbelievable if you ask me. Oh my gosh, I mean you have a two year old kid wandering around the house and you think that under the living room couch is a safe place to keep your loaded gun?! Kids will be kids, and kids are very curious. If you are going to own any kinds of weapons, keep them locked up somewhere well hidden and child proof!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree that parents should be more aware of their placement of such weapons. Yes we have the right to bear arms, but when we are given this right so freely, people should be more cautious.
ReplyDeleteI think the father deserved to be charged. However, I'm sure living with that burden will be his greatest (as in biggest) punishment. How terrible for the girl and the family. Something so preventable.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad to hear, the child probably didn't even talk yet. The father most likely bought the gun to protect the house and the family, but he didn't protect it from his family. He should have been more careful on the placement of the gun in the house.
ReplyDeleteI understand the father's point of view of keeping the gun in order to protect the family, but seriously, why leave it under the couch? It's sad to hear this happen, but c'mon people. Common Sense is hardly used nowadays.
ReplyDeleteWow...this is so terrible to read. It's so unfortunate that something this disastrous has occurred. Keeping that family in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteThis is so terrible! 2 year olds need to be watched at all times whenever they are crawling on the floor or playing around. This is why everything is childproof for kids. There shouldn't be a gun under a couch whenever they have kids, it should be in a safe where only the parents can get into it.
ReplyDeleteIts amazing the stupidity of parents these days. Why would you leave a gone out in the middle of your home for your child to get a hold of, why were you not watching your child to make sure they didnt get the gun? All these questions bewilder me, how could you not be concerned with your child to not be watching them twenty four seven.
ReplyDeleteI think that people 100% have the right to have guns in their homes for their own protection. However, I also think there should be stricter restrictions on who can purchase and buy guns. Obviously this man didn't have much common sense, keeping the gun under his couch in a house where there was a small child.
ReplyDeleteumm...what is a gun doing under the couch? It should not have been there in the first place, especially when 2 year old's and other toddlers like to find their way through small places. I totally agree that is is the fathers fault of putting it there, although I would wonder how the two year old had the God-given strength to shoot herself like that....beats me...keeping them in my prayers
ReplyDeleteI believe that people have the right to keep guns in their houses, but they should be much more careful with them. The father should not have had the gun loaded in reach of his two-year-old daughter, nor should she have been alone for long enough for this to happen. Toddlers can get into heaps of danger without guns around, so the father should have been watching her in the first place.
