"Boy Scouts remove 2 men who toppled ancient rock" - Emily Gray , 5th period

Summary - Two Utah men, Glenn Taylor and Dave Hall, lead a group of boy scouts through the Goblin Valley State Park, on Oct. 11, 2013. During this trip the two men posted a Facebook post of a video showing them pushing down a 170 million year old rock formation. The two men have been denounced from there position as Boy Scout leaders and the situation is being further investigated.

Analysis: this article was written by Brandy McCombs on October 21, 2013. The general audience for this type of article is the public. I think that this essay was go inform others that we should preserve natural landmarks and not try to mess with them. If they are in the way of our path we should find a way around them not destroy them. Another issue this article shows is the lack of security in these types of places. If that video was posted no one probably would of known. The article didn't mention the site of a state trooper at the site or anything. Landmarks like these should be more protected and secured to prevent accidents like the one showed in this article.

  1. This is really unfortunate. I wonder though, did the men realize the rock they were toppling was ancient? If not, shouldn't the state have some protection for ancient landmarks or at least inform it's visitors that the land marks exist?
