38-year-old, Shannon Herrin’s body
was found in a freezer in August. However, medical examiners have just
discovered that drugs are to blame for her death. A Dallas Medical Examiner’s
report states, “Shannon Herrin died of the toxic effects of methamphetamine,
with hypothermia as a contributing factor.” The report also says that there
were no signs of trauma on her body. Instead, she had needle puncture wounds on
her arm and there were traces of marijuana, hyrdrocodone and a prescription
anti-anxiety medicine in her system. Drug paraphernalia were also found near
the scene. The medical examiner says, “She likely crawled into the freezer
while under the effects of methamphetamine.” Her death is ruled as an accident.
Herrin’s body was found by her teenage son in the deep freezer of their home.
Mineral Wells Police Chief Dean Sullivan says, “"We are mindful of
Shannon's family and their grief from such a tragic loss. These toxicology
results serve as yet another example of the terrible effects and harm meth can
cause to people, their families, and a community. Our thoughts and prayers go
out to this family, especially to her son."
This is a really weird but
unfortunate situation. Think about it, her son found his mom in their own
freezer. I can’t imagine what he was feeling in that moment, but the
circumstances in which she died make it more difficult to be a sympathetic as
normal. Meth is such a powerful drug that no one should experience. Herrin’s
family is certainly in my thoughts and prayers. I hope stories like these speak
to all of the other drug addicts out there.

This is definitely unfortunate and disturbing. These types of situations need to made public to help deter people from using drugs.
ReplyDeleteIt always surprises me that though people know the bad effects of drugs and they know that they are addictive, they still try them. People are constantly searching for happiness and they see drugs as an easy route. But that is only artificial happiness that lasts for a short period of time.
ReplyDeletei dont know how you could be a responsible parent and adult and be addicted to drugs. they mess you up mentally and physically, and they warp your perception of things. it's tragic that she died while under the influence, but being on some many drugs at once would probably be a contributing factor to death. people know drugs are harmful and they still go after them, but theres no need to!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a sad situation for the poor son to have to experience. Reading these types of stories is what continues to show me that drugs are so very, very bad for us. They mess up your mind and your body. I sure hope this boy is going to be ok and not make the same mistakes his mother obviously did.
