I chose the article Kennedy’s vision for mental health never
realized, from USA Today, written by the associated press. This story looks
at JFK’s plan to provide mental health centers for all Americans in order to
allow those with mental illnesses to live at home and carry on their lives. In
recent days mental health legislation issues have become extremely important.
This legislation, cut short by the president’s assassination, would have
provided a solution that is even more feasible today.
I
have been interested in John F. Kennedy lately simply because he was cool and
served in a fascinating era but I hadn’t ever taken a look at a specific policy
of his. This opened my eyes to our former president’s actions and ideas. This
story is valid today in the midst of shootings and steps backwards in mental
health legislation. I enjoyed reading this article. It is important to learn
the history of our nation through the beliefs of our former leaders and I have
found that there is a lot to be learned from Kennedy.
