SpaceX studying landing sites for Mars missions Maggie Gibson

SpaceX, a private spacecraft company, has been cooperating with NASA to find landing sights on Mars for possible human missions. A spokesperson for SpaceX said the company had found several landing sights already, working with NASA's laboratories. The landing sight should have large amounts of ice, accessible from the surface, that could possibly support human life. It also should be close to the Equator and at a low elevation to possibly generate solar power and better weather. Any landing sights that meet this criteria would interest SpaceX in placing a long-term human settlement on Mars. SpaceX is a transportation company, so its spacecraft could carry about one ton of useful payload to Mars. Though the original plan was to launch in 2018, the mission will most likely launch in 2020.
This article is really cool and interesting. I think the possibility of humans being able to survive long term on Mars is a really interesting idea, though I do have my skepticism about it actually happening. But that possibility of human life existing somewhere outside of Earth is truly incredible - and it truly shows just how to far society has advanced technologically. This can be synthesized to Neil Armstrong's landing on the moon in 1969.
