Matthew Zapata - Sexism at Uber

Summary:CNN released an article basically describing the scandal that has been revolving around Uber for some time. A former engineer made public allegations of widespread sexism and harassment at Uber which was cause for investigation. Uber board member Arianna Huffington said that the allegations were not a "systemic" problem at the company. Huffington said in an interview that there were in fact a few "bad apples" but the problem was not systemic. She states that the important thing is that the protection of women and minorities that wasn't at the company is now there and that what she wants us to focus on.

Analysis: Before reading this article i knew very little about the investigation or the details going on with Uber. I honestly just knew that Uber was being boycotted by many people over social media and just never looked into why, so this article was very insightful. I want to believe Arianna Huffington but there have been many suspicious leavings of people within the company with same allegations in big numbers. The problem in fact may not be systemic like Huffington says but it is still saddening that this problem is still very much present within the company.

  1. Uber had been doing so well. It saddens me that these claims have come out against them. My brother used them often, but no longer isn't because of the claims. So sad.

  2. Uber has always seemed like a really well organized and stable company. I think Huffington is right when she says there are a few bad apples which is understandable. I hope they make a come back.

  3. Well, Uber did recently have some problems, such as the fact that they opted out of boycotting the airport after the travel ban and then their opting out of background checks on their workers. They keep messing up more.
