Emily McDougal - "Great American Eclipse"

Summary: For the first time in 99 years, there will be a total solar eclipse across the country from the Pacific to the Atlantic. The last time this occurred was on June 8, 1918 and it covered all the way from Washington to Florida. This year on August 21, it will affect from around Portland, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. These states and those in between will experience darkness for about half an hour in the middle of the day, when the moon comes in between the Sun and the Earth. This amazing phenomenon is being called the "Great American Eclipse."

Analysis: This article was written on March 16, 2017, by Christina Zdanowicz and Judson Jones, to inform the audience about the rare event that will occur this fall. This amazed me when I read about it and it's such a once in a life time opportunity to experience. Even though our part of the United States will not be as affected, it's so cool that something so rare will be occurring in our country. I hadn't heard about this before I read this article, and I think it's important that more people are informed so we can all experience such an incredible phenomenon.

Synthesis: This relates to the solar eclipse that occurred in 1918, which was visible not only in the United States, but also across Northeast Asia, Northern Europe and Central America.
